This is actually where Crash Bandicoot’s core gameplay makes use of its biggest strengths but also where it finds its biggest flaws. Most of time you will find yourself running ‘into’ the background but performing actions that wouldn’t be out-of-place in a traditional Mario or Sonic game. So the opportunity to revisit the original and finally be able to play Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back and Crash Bandicoot: Warped was something really exciting for me and now that I’ve wrapped up all three I feel like I missed out on something pretty special back in the day, though maybe that’s a good thing in the long run.īeing a huge fan of platformers (both 2D and 3D) I was really looking forward to going back and trying one of the forefathers of the three-dimensional platformer but, for those who haven’t played these games before, Crash Bandicoot actually plays more like a 2D platformer – just in 3D. Thankfully one of my good buddies just so happened to have a copy of the original Crash Bandicoot, so I was able to get a good grasp of how the game played, and while I never was able to finish it completely I did really like what I got the chance to play. Despite being a very active gamer throughout the 1990’s our household sadly didn’t have a PlayStation when I was growing up so my only chance to play a lot of the system’s heavy-hitters was visiting a friend’s house and playing their copies. Sane fun with the compilation releasing for the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch and PC, systems whose core fan-bases might not have grown up with Crash and don’t know much about the character… just like yours truly!
Well now a few more platforms are getting in on the N. Sane Trilogy was so positive and the game went on to become a smash-hit when it launched on the PlayStation 4 about a year ago. This is why the reception to the original three games in the Crash Bandicoot series making a comeback in the form of the N.
Retro-revivals of classic franchises are all the rage these days as people who grew up playing games are finding themselves wanting to revisit the characters and moments that defined their formative years.
